Wow. This is amazing. When reading this I realize myself, and so many others. Eveyone is just sort of pushed a long into things (sun). We all have our friends who we associate with but are not the same as (venus). It would be good if you could make another example or two of that though. Like we all have our followers (moon), or our enemies...
When I read "unable to communicate with anything else, observing only, changing nothing, " it made me think of earth as an infant, or maybe a mute person. Just sort of stranded. Reaching out with all we can (sattelites) yet still understanding nothing in the whole scheme things. And yet we are alone so we can not compare notes with anyone. And so earth leaves no mark on the universe. It is just a ball of mud..
Your last line reminds me of something we were doing in chem today. Where we actually had X minus a number, but since that number was so infinitessimally small it meant nothing, and the answer was just X. The universe is like this X. With or without earth it is the same.
This piece was good. But I felt so cut off. It could be expanded into so much more. And I am left with wanting, needing more explanation from the author. And even though there was no direct comparison to the individual person, it still feels that this is just a metaphor for a single person. But then this leads me to think of the purpose of the earth, of just one thing, the purpose of one person, the purpose of me. But then I think, hey.. the universe is made up of a great amount of planets and suns. And no, one of those doesn't matter. But if you say one doesn't matter, then you have to say that they all don't matter (Its sorta like the, if I give you a piece of gum I have to give everyone a piece of gum). So then I relate this to humanity and I get that though, in the long run I won't individually matter most likely, I will make but a small imprint on the world... I am important because I am part of what is a whole society.
Wow, its very late for this to have brought up all these thoughts. And that was almost an essay. Wow. Night.
