Subject: My Disease

Never in my life have I been so scared-
so horrified of being trapped in my body-
so angry that my body let me down.

I'm so sick.
Physically, emotionally-
I'm shutting down.

I wasn't prepared to get sick.
To be poked and proded-
Specialists shaking their heads
as I look out the window at my graduating class-
moving on without me.

I've never been in more pain-
I've never felt so alone-

I hate being jealous of people who don't hurt.
I know it could be worse, and I hang on to that
and thank god every day
for every day-
which I'd never done before.

This disease took my life,
but it gave me love for it as well.

I guess you really do love what you can't have.

My one regret in life-
taking it for granted.
