I like Carrie a lot.
We are in love ya know.
I don’t need to explain do I?
I mean we all know what love is:
roses and the color red,
a crotchety old man with a catheter.

Yea, we’ve got that and it tickles
me in the breeze of her hair,
it scratches my back in the ocean
of her frothy eyes, gets me three quarts
drunk from the tips of her fingers.
Ah, her little pink hamster hands.
(Don’t tell her I said that,
she gets self-conscious.)

So love, this nebulous abstraction,
this George W. Bush of an emotion,
its all summed up in one word, one
word that fell from Carrie’s sweet
lips. “Pussy!” she called me and she
meant it. And you know what, I
can appreciate that,

just like Carrie did the roses
I gave her, blooming like the roof
of a mouth burned on fresh pizza.
