i caught a perfect butterfly
i cherished a perfect butterfly
i watched over a perfect butterfly
i loved a perfect butterfly
this perfect creature
bedazzling in her resplendence
created harmony within me
as ne'er an ill chord i struck
she was beautiful for me
i loved a perfect butterfly
who plinked against her mason jar
wings flapping, trying for escape
i loved her so
i had no choice but to release her
as i bit my lip
and swallowed my pain
she flew out into the world
and i watched
and strained
until i could see her no more.

then, i wept unabashed.
