I wish we hadn't, frankly. The German Empire would have survived intact in 1918 and we wouldn't have even needed to return in 1943-5. And we became the greatest nation in human history, because we codified man's rights into the law itself. In addition, American capitalism lifted all of humanity up. It was a combination of free men who were free to chart their own course in life and the best economic system ever devised.
