Subject: What now?

Arafat couldn't have set a higher road than the vision he provided to the Times (I think). Jerusalem as a bi-national, open capital; a separate and equal Palestinian state; and an end to the endless fighting. The ball has been moved, if not into Israel's court, certainly closer to the center of the matter.

Seems to me that Israel now needs to look at its attitude -- can it deal with the Palestinians as equals or will it continue to deal from its position of power, which is, after all, not very good faith.

And, can both parties bilaterally declare the extremists on both sides as outlaws? How shall Israel deal with the Zionists when they move to (again) replace the government? Can there be a good faith agreement when the Zionists can control Israel's actions?

Can there be a good faith agreement if the Palestinians cannot (or will not) control its extremists?

If both sides take a mutual position that extremes on either side will not be tolerated, then there is hope the issue can be resolved and both sides can make huge amounts of money off tourists in the "holy land." It don't get no better than that.
