I agree, but that is also one of the (assumed) advantages is that the college prevents dominating "single mindedness."

I think it is not all bad until it is manipulated purposefully to skew a national election. Bush used issues to influence small population votes, was able to take the electoral vote, so our whole system is now dominated by issue orientated "thinking." I think the real down side is that issue dominated people are, by definition, not always overly perceptive or bright and certainly, they are inclined to filter everything through self.

Can Bush continue to claim a mandate or does he even care. I think he doesn't.
