Subject: Garden

Donk, I saw your post on R&E, but didn't have time to nswer. The potato seeds have sprouted, maybe 100% germination. Same with the tobacco, tomatoes and cabbage. Have been digging up the garden. Have about a third of it ready. The topsoil in one small area is very shallow. Funny, I could swear I built the whole thing up year before last (was too busy for a garden last year). Just below the surface is a fine red gravel. I'm going to add in manure, peat, and muclh. If that doesn't do it I'll buy some soil and add to it and if it reverts again next year I'll do it again. I wonder if it could be somehow connected to the fact that it's not far from the spring?
