I took this off the message board talking about the Mother Vinegar. I'm not pushing this as a medicine but asking if anyone has more info on it and does it work. I for one would love to stay away from all meds if possible. I do have one question....does vinegar do anything to the blood such as thinning it or clotting it. I'm on 10mg of blood thinner a day because of C and S Protein definancy disease...which is a clotting disease. Here is what the person said.
IF you think that the mother is important you can make your own. If you have access to a cider press, thats great. Otherwise toss your apples into a blender and puree them. Put into a cotton bag or tea towel and squeeze as much juice out as you can. Then put the stuff into a colandar and put in the refrig so it won't spoil but more juice will drip out (put towel under colandar and something on top of the pulp to press it down) After you have gotten all the juice out that you can, one way or another, WITHOUT APPLYING ANY HEAT,put it into a jug with a narrow head. Like the plastic vinegar bottles from the store. Stick it in a cool place and use a piece of panty hose and a rubber band over the opening. Just let it set for a few weeks. You will get vinegar and it will have mother in it. If you have a little bit of mother you can add it. Its like making sourdough. Don't buy apples with high sugar content. Buy apples that are juicey and tart. Too much sugar and you will get mold before the vinegar gets to start working. I have made barrels of this, literally, but did have a big cider press. If you can find unpasturized cider in a store, that will work too. When its working it will be brown and cloudy and scummy and bubbly on top. Really yukky. When it finishes it will be brown and rather clear with something that looks like a piece of opaque plastic (like a milk jug) in it. THAT IS MOTHER!!
