I tried selling Real Estate in California, during the boom in the seventies, when all you had to do to sell a house was show it. I was in my twenties and so the people who chose me as their agent were usually young too. I had such a hard time justifying selling them a house they could qualify for but could never pay for. Never sold one house, when all the other agents in the office were making a mint.
Broker just couldn't figure me out. In all the sales training classes I was a top student. Passed the test in an hour and a half, when it was supposed to take three. Called my broker and said, "I passed" as soon as I got out, even tho I wouldn't get the results for two weeks. He said I was the first person he knew who came out of there sure enough to call and announce it before getting the results. Ha. Same with those vaccuums that claim to be everything but a vaccuum. Went in for the "training" cuz I was job hunting, but there was no way I could sell this thing as anything but a vaccuum. Told them I'd take the job if I could call it a vac. Shoulda seen their faces.

I wish I could be optimistic. In some ways I am. The medical advances now being made are just incredible. The prospect of education taking on a life of it's own thrills me. I am hearing of a lot of innovative ways of teaching and even new and exciting ways to form a school. The technology of personal expression, communication, and even space colonization, are so amazing to me. OK, space colonization is not looking too promising right now, but that has to change.

If we just didn't think about currnet political and military events we could almost be optimistic.
