Many state legislators proudly point out that their states rank ahead of Alabama in most economic and education categories. Likewise, many of Alabama's state legislators proudly point out that Alabama ranks ahead of Mississippi in most economic and education categories. After this public pronouncement, a thought balloon (like in the funny papers) can be seen by the discerning observer. The content of the thought balloon above the head of Alabama's elected officials is almost always "Thank God for Mississippi!".
