These people don't do anything off hand or without purpose or direction. They didn't engineer an electoral victory by being stupid or rash.

The odd thing is that the mission is being put under the DoD instead of the State department. Have to figure that one out. Might be because the Secretary of State isn't willing to be a player and the administration can't afford to get rid of him -- yet.

The SecDef is more than willing to be a team player. I'm sure he agrees with bush's perception that he is no longer charged with the duties of the chief executive, he is now pursuing his "calling." Well, so was Hitler and they know it and they don't seem to care.

It is my understanding that when Cheney was the SecDef, he had a discussion about the Nazis and in the main, he admired their organization, dedication, and methods, but he felt they made some mistakes -- got sidetracked. I have heard similar observations from military officers which isn't particularly alarming until they are given an opportunity to follow the same "calling."

My guess is that this was reported so the administration can pretty much say whatever it wants, then fall back into a disinformation thing if anybody calls them on details or facts. We already see some of that strategy in Bush's complaining about Congressional inaction on HIS initiatives. He minimizes the issues, even belittles those who disagree, instead appealing to the emotions of the masses he perceives telling them to direct their representatives in his favor. This unabashed strong arming is a common theme with this administration and it always has an excuse, somebody to blame, for why it isn't getting things done the way it wants. Bush is putting the dependent personality thing to work for him -- ever heard an alcoholic accept responsibility for the consequences of his drinking? Ever heard Bush accept responsibility for anything except things he defines to be good?

The psychology is there.
