In reply to: what were they judged on? 's message, "Shimmering Stars Winners?" on 04:38:22 01/15/02 Tue

LOL I invite any of you to join our judges list. If you feel the contest is unfair, try judging for yourself. Just please.....leave the negative comments on this board. I don't mean to be rude or even ungrateful but if you don't like the way the contest is run, then simply do not enter (or even visit the site for that matter). I pride myself on offering a fair contest and most people appreciate the time and effort I put into it.

Kim, I just wonder if you know that alot of these moms choose each others kids on a very consistant basis. Most of them run online "contests" that cater to snapshots touched up by each other. How can you say that this is run that fair when you see the same kids (with not great photos or the prettiest faces) winning each other's contests over some of the most beautiful kids in the country? It may be their opinions, but their opinions are very biased toward each other and whoever gives their site a "prettiest site award" next month. No offense, but if that's mostly what is going to win, maybe you should change it to a snapshot or amateur photo contest. JMHO as well as alot of other moms.

Yes, I realize that a lot of what you are saying is true. That is why I use 2 judges of my own (usually my friends or family who have absolutely nothing to do with online photo contests). Points are also deducted from the final score if the contestant is wearing "painted on" make-up (based on age.....meaning we are more tolerant of the older girls with make-up). I have nothing against make-up or pageant photos (my daughter was once a pageant kid too until she decided she no longer wanted to participate) but I feel the make-up should be kept to a minimum and used only to enhance your natural beauty and not to change your appearance drastically. I have seen pageant photos and snapshots of the same kids and if I didn't know better I'd say they were two entirely different children. I instruct my judges to base their opinions on natural facial beauty and personality. As far as letting certain kids win so that my child can win in their mother's contest is absolutely untrue in as much as my daughter no longer participates in pageants or photo contests. In fact, that is the whole reason I started Shimmering Stars.....because I was having "pageant mom" withdrawals. LOL Just know that each month we have at least 5-8 judges, 2-3 of which are in no way related to pageants or contests. If anyone has suggestions on making the contest more fair, then please let me know. I meant it when I said I want to run a FAIR contest for ALL children.

I tried this a while back. I divided the contest up into three categories....glam, studio, and snapshot. It was a total disaster! I had asked everyone to classify their photo for me; if no indication was made I'd put it where I thought it best belonged. Well, as you know, sometimes it is hard to tell a good enhancement from a glam shot, etc. When the winners were posted I had complaints from everywhere...."my photo would have done better if it was classified right....blah, blah". I finally said "enough" and that's when I started cropping all photos to the head and placing them in one category again. Either way I go, somebody is complaining! Any more suggestions?
