Subject: Stealth Repentance? Stealth Change?
In reply to: Tony Lang 's message, "The Changing UBF" on 07:49:35 02/12/05 Sat

I keep hearing people say UBF has changed. If so, how? I have not heard that UBF has specifically addressed the forced abortions, beatings, misappropriation of funds, the cover ups of adultery, or any of the questions that the very senior leadership of UBF had put forth in 1999. I have not heard of any apologies for excommunicating and removing people who questioned the problems that even now UBF people admit were problems. I have not seen any offers to resign, any testimony of repentance or the least step in the direction of making UBF leaders accountable. All we have is one or two anonymous people saying, "things have changed." This is meaningless.

To me it just looks like more UBF sneakiness and insincerity. It is like rubbing salt in the wounds of hurt UBF people to say such things. Please don't joke around anymore and insult us with such statements. It hurts too much.

If UBF has really changed then let the UBF board make a public statement about it. Let them acknowledge the wrongs perpetrated and ask for forgiveness. Let them make a system of justice within UBF so that when future abuse occurs, people will have an avenue to go to deal with it. Let them reinstate the more than half of chapters in Korea, Germany, and around the world that were summarily and arbitrarily excommunicated because they merely asked questions. This would be real repentance and change, not just a couple of hit and run UBF defenders vaguely saying, "things have changed."
