Dear Catlin;

You are more likely than not a terrific mom.

Please remember that at the tender age of 9, a boy is usually developing the confidence to express himself and make some simple choices on his own. His tastes in food or movies might be a bit different than yours. Perhaps you could meet him halfway by asking him what he would like to eat for a certain night and make that a weekly treat. Then he will recognize that you are still the mom and you are doing something really special just for him.

About the movie choice. I agree with you that Sunday should be the Lord's day. My friend's who currently have children ages 8 through 11 developed a fun way to keep Sunday in perspective. After the family arrives home from church they have a meal and hang out for a few hours checking homework... Then after dinner the family gathers together for Scripture reading. The children get to share in this reading. Then each child gets to share a 5-10 minute presentation on what they learned from the week before. It might be a puppet show, or a game they have made up to illustrate their point. After this hour or so, the whole family plays a game together. Candy Land, Monopoly.... whatever they can all play and share family time. No tv or movies. Just time to be together and talk. For parents, my friend says it is her time to just listen and give the kids a memory of family connection.

Just a suggestion.
Best of Success
Desiree
