"the dictionary defines 'smart' as 'to cause a sharp stinging pain'" (in other words, don't be too "smart", turn off your mind, and listen to us).

The problem is, that this definition doesn't apply to the adjective but to an idiom which contains the word "smart":
"making one smart" - yes, that idiom is listed as the fierst entry, and the edjective definition of "smart" only in place 4 ("mentally alert") - but that doesn't diminish the fact that one cannot say that a word in an idiom has the same meaning as the word by itself.

The next trick they'll try to pull is that "fishers of men" can be used like in the dicionary to mean: go into the sea, cast out the net and catch people... ahhh now all of a sudden they'll admit that talking idiomatically is NOT the same as taking the words by themselves.

But it's obvious, UBF tries every trick to re-define things to fit their ideology.
