Philip, leaving a cult mind control environment such as UBF is always a traumatic experience, and if it happens simultaneously together with a broken friendship, it is understandable that you are in great turmoil mentally. God is much greater than you may believe from your UBF experience. He knows about your condition and will heal your life in every aspect; just trust him more than anything else, even demonic voices or your own heart or own thoughts. John wrote in his first letter: "This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything."

It is wonderful that you could reestablish your friendship. But you shouldn't make your relationship with God dependent from your relationship with other people again, be it a religious group, religious "leaders", a girlfriend or whoever. Your relationship with God should stand above all these things and you should trust him no matter what happens. I think the main problem with UBF is that people tie their spiritual relationship with God too much together with their relationship with other people. We have to relearn to have our own relationship with God that is holy and that nobody can interfer with and manipulate. We have to relearn to use our brain and our conscience when making decisions, and have a healthy self-assurance. This needs some time. Maybe you feel much better now, but I would still recommend to have some sessions with a Chrisitan counselor who is specialized on exit counseling from mind control groups.

May God bless your life abundantly.
