There are limits governed by law about how much realestate a church or not for profit organization can own. There are also laws about how much income a church can gain from such sources.

I don't know about the U.S., but UBF Bonn nicely circumvenes that problem by making all UBF housing the personal property of Peter Chang (means, he AND ONLY he decides what happens with that property and where any $$$ goes that comes from this business).
