Subject: Hope this board picks up

Hope this place picks up. As someone who doesn't have a TCRG and teaches( I've taken the exam ) it's no walk in the park to pass. My hats off to anyone that does! Not everyone wants to compete, and not all TCRG's want to teach rec. dancer's. There is a need for us to fill the void. Just my 2 cents

You have to question the teaching ability of people who can't pass their teacher's exam. I got mine first time, but there were people sitting the exam who just weren't a good enough dancer to be teaching anyone else.
You have to have some kind of standardized system. Otherwise anyone with a pair of hard shoes can set up a class and charge parents for a job they can't do. This makes sense.

Good for you passed on the first try! congrats, now go away and play somewhere else. Our better yet tell us who you are and I'll stop hiding behind the non cert name, maybe you already know who I am? Maybe you'll realize you shouldn't assume that I can't dance or what part of the exam I didn't pass. What are you afraid of? That I'll pick up the rec. dancers the ones who don't want to compete, the ones who just want to dance who's parents can't afford fancy solo dresses and costly school costumes. Are you so afraid of little ole me cause I'm stealing dancers from your school. Something must have made you come out here and assume that I'm some boob who in your own words "weren't a good enough dancer to be teaching anyone else" Tell me what was it?

im a non certified teacher and i have many champions in My school actually i danced with an-commission for 18 years and participated in the worlds and all ireland and have world medals. I am a good dancer and a fantastic teacher . Im also a primary school teacher but i didnt pass a section of the exam and then realised that it was far too stressful as i had also just misscarried and felt the time wasnt right and with all the cheating that was going on at competitions i just had enough with an commission. why should my parents pay out all this money to see there chilsren in the best of dresses at the best feises pay there fees and just get brushed off. as we all know its who you know in an commission and the adjudicators. Its not about how good a dancer is anymore and the fun and enjoyment has gone out the window. I have 26 dancers that all left an commission to start up with me and they still compete winning everything not only that but when they do go to open platfrom competitions and dance against dancers who come from registered schools they also beat them so dont tell me or any other dancing teacher that were not good enough. The proof is that some teachers out there that have passed there TCRG realise that three is dancing teachers that are not certified and that are doing a better job. I have many many friends in the dancing world and in the shows that are Fantastic TCRG and who are very encouraging to all dancers be it registered or non registered so go away and hide behind that tree your dreaming from and maybe when you wake up you might have matured a little. For all the non certified teachers out there you dont need to hide behind the non cert name as you dont need a certificate to prrove to the parents and chi;ldren you teach that your a capable teacher. Good luck to all dancers and teachers through out the world keep up the irish culture and have fun

Thanks for your post, on a whim I came back out to surf a few boards I don't as a rule anymore. I too danced for 15yrs in the other world, qualifed 7 times for the worlds, but my folks could never afford to send me oversea's so I didn't get to go. The exam is stressfull and its still who you know not what you know. However I found a home teaching as an assistant in a certifed school so to a point I've gone over to the dark side. My little group of 20 dancers have been adopted into the larger cert school and have formed the core of our teams, and several are in prize winner & PC/OC.

I couldn't agree with you more...I too, danced for years under a tcrg in massachusetts and competed at the worlds in Galway...I love dancing and teaching. I am pursuing a M.Ed in Special Education and have been teaching dance lessons for the past few years...I feel that I am qualified to teach dance classes to children and adults who appreciate the beauty, culture, and tradition of step dancing. I am open with them regarding being non-certified and have a large group of students. They enjoy not only learning traditional irish dance, but have met many friends, enhanced their social skills, and will have a unique talent to carry with them throughout their life long path without the stress and worry that competition today brings.

What makes you think that because you can get through a light jig that entitles you to set up a class and take peoples money? other people work their butts off and do it the right way. Actully if you live in southern ontario there are several certified schools to choose from and I can think of at least 3 non cert schools (one of which is operated by a former TCRG) I'm not sure of the other two but one operates in Burlington and the other is in Brampton. The city's in and around Lake Ontario from Fort Erie to Ajax right into Ottawa region and right back to Windsor all have access to certified schools. So for those who wish too you can choose from some of the best teachers in the world as lots of world champions have been trained in this region.

With that said I don't agree with the tone of the assumed TCRG message (I'll take it on good faith that you are)and I have a few questions for you 1) who qualified you to decide what is the right or wrong way? 2) why did you assume the OP can't do more then just a light jig? Maybe just maybe the OP is a former champion dancer? Don't you think that might be the case with all the schools in this region and the large amount of dancers.

Some other reasons one might seek out a non cert school is the cost, I live in the area and wow is all I can say when people talk about how much per month or per year parents pay for lesson & admin fee's to attend some of the area schools, not including fund raising. Some dancers might not wish to compete, parents may not be able to afford the cost of feisanna (dresses, both solo & school can be very costly) Entry fees are or have gone up (both per dance & door fee) The cost of fuel to get to the event and now most don't allow coolers into building so better add in food for the day) These are just some of the reasons one might seek out a non cert school.

And while I'm at how about the TCRG's who have serveral locations going and are using senoir dancers to cover them? You & I both know it's happening! So what's your opinion on that?
