Hey, boy I haven't been home during a work week for months!
Good news. My father-in-law's house was a bit moldy and muddy, but nothing serious. He does have some insurance that should cover the damage.
He called us on September 3rd, practically begging us to come and get him and his wife, even though at that time Hurricane Gustav had gone away from Texas. But my husband took off work and went to get them on the 4th. They should be here for a few more weeks, while they decide if they will be staying with family while their house is fixed up, or if they will be staying in a hotel in Houston. My husband's other family members in Houston also just had minimal damage from Ike, but most of them don't have electricity right now.
On to the presidential debate that McCain wants to delay...
WHAT???!!!???
I can't believe that McCain is pulling this stunt! I have been reading up on our past presidential debates, and check this out:
During the CIVIL WAR, the WORST time in our country's history, Abraham Lincoln DEBATED Democratic nominee George McClellan! Lincoln didn't ask to cancel the debates, he didn't avoid them or ignore them. Lincoln debated McClellan because Lincoln KNEW that the debates would be the deciding factor on who would be leading the country out of the Civil War!
If Lincoln could hold debates, during the crisis our country was in in 1864, what's the matter with McCain?
I know that McCain, and that idiot Sen. Phil Graham, from Texas, worked during the late 1990s to stop the regulations that the government had in place since the 1930s. They both said that the big businesses didn't need government interference and that the businesses would keep themselves in check.
Well, since we'll all soon be owning a piece of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, let's get them to take out a LOAN from US and pay back the LOAN, WITH INTEREST.
I'll be interested in hearing what Bush has to say for his 'super duper' speech in about 40 minutes. This baloney of giving that Treausurer Paulson complete control of $700 Billion to spend as he sees fit, it completely INSANE! Bush better come up with something else, and FAST. (My personal wish would be to have all these rich SOBs 'donate' money to their own businesses and pay the damage themselves)...
