There were very few black people, PERIOD, until Stan Grayson's class came in. After that, more minority players started coming in. Donohue left in 1972 and, in retrospect, was looking to get out of HC a couple of years before; his last 1 or 2 recruiting classes were basically leftovers.

The big problem w/Donohue was that the Teixeira thing really hurt him in Greater Boston as Ron Perry, then the Catholic Memorial coach, pretty much refused to deal with him again. Perry, who later became the HC Athletic Director, had a great program and was quite influential in the area.

Ron "resigned" from the team after the first two games of the '67-'68 season---his junior yr.--a 73-70 ot road win at Dartmouth and a 78-55 road loss at Yale, whose tallest player, Ed Goldstone, was 6'5". Listened to the Yale game as an HC student and can still hear the words of Bob Gamere during the broadcast "...rebound up,no good..rebound up, no good..rebound up & good and a foul on the Crusaders.." We were devastated on the offensive boards by a much smaller team and posted only 55 points (lowest total of the season)
in a yr. when we averaged almost 78 ppg. I suspect that
the locker room scenario after the game was not pleasant and that may have precipitated Ron's departure. That departure has always been cloaked in mystery in terms of the words exchanged and the true motivations.
