I've held off complaining about the Patriot league for a long time because I don't feel HC's administration has any intention of trying to move to a better conference. As a long-time fan and life long Worcester resident I think its ironic that HC is located in Worcester. Worcester is the biggest little city in America because as it does nothing to promote itself and constantly creates reasons why things can't be changed rather than coming up with ways to improve the city. A perfect example is the now deserted airport, how can a city the size of Worcester not have an active vibrant airport. Just look 40 miles to the south to see the revival that's taken place in Providence in the last 15 years. In many ways HC is like Worcester no vision of what things could be. Basketball could be big-time in Worcester if the team was in a decent league. I don't think the Big East will ever again be a posibility but the A-10 is certainly an attractive alternative as the league annually sends numerous teams to post season play. Over the years HC has played a number of these schools and two league members already reside in New England. It would eliminate current scheduling issues and provide good competition that would create fan interest. In the late 70's prior to the dubious decision not to join the Big East, HC tickets were hard to come by. The Centrum was built with the hope that HC would use the building regularly, but rather than taking the opportunity to grow the program HC took the holier than thou attitude and decided to play lesser competition. Interest in HC has been on the decline ever since. With RW in place the time is ripe to try to get in a league that will produce fan interest and revenue for the college.
As for the Colgate fan, HC will never be able to bring the program to its full potential in the Patriot league, as blue chip prospects want no part of the league. Even America East is a step up from the PL. By the way, HC will win the league easily next year, this was a one year aberration.

Great post Tony. Do the fans have it all wrong and are we supposed to accept the PL as the best league for HC, because every school in it thinks it is so far beyond the rest of the world intellectually, that it could NEVER compete against the lesser scholars. Wake up HC!!

There are alot of excellent students at all institutions across america. The PL is not an island, and not everyone who comes out of those schools is a superior student.

It's easy, Worcester has never bought the PL. It never will. Your students, don't buy it. The media doesn't buy it.
The NCAA doesn't buy it. What is there not to understand?? You don't need to have scored 1400 on an SAT to see the PL is a lousy league and HC and the community deserves better.
