Subject: A Crusader in the Boston Marathon

Matt Karatkewicz, recent grad (Class of 2003) and former member of the HC Track and Cross Country Teams, ran quite well in the 108th Boston Marathon. Matt ran a 2:41:07, and was 49th overall male runner. Matt was the 23rd fastest American male. For more information, check out the Men’s T&F/CC Team website:

Congratulations, Matt!

Actually, Joe, Karatkewicz was 59th overall and 30th amongst Americans, but he has run quite well in a pair of recent marathons, as he ran a 2:37 in the Hartford Marathon not too long ago before his Boston successes, running a 2:41 on a very hot day and on a much harder course. An excellent showing by Matt, and it will be interesting to see how he fares in future marathons.

Congrats, Matt!

Crabcakes,
Matt was 59th OVERALL - but the 49th MALE runner. 10 Women finished ahead of him. Similarly, he was the 30th overall American, but he was the 23rd fastest American Male. Semantics, but I just wanted to clarify. Matt ran well no matter how you look at it.

On another note, Emily Hogan '02, another former HC track team member (and 2002 Crusader of the Year), finished in 3:19:40. She was the 78th fastest woman, and 51st American woman.

Just for the sake of conversation - can anyone recall better finishes for the Purple?
