Holy Cross names Darryl Hillard as a New Assistant Men's Basketball Coach
Worcester, Mass. - Holy Cross athletic director Richard Regan announced today that Darryl Hillard has accepted a position as an assistant coach for the men's basketball team. Hillard will replace Tony Newsom, who left the Crusaders to take a position with Princeton University.
Hillard comes to Holy Cross after spending the last two seasons as the head coach at Snowden International high school in Boston, Mass. Prior to his tenure at Snowden, Hillard spent four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of New Hampshire. While at New Hampshire, Hillard was responsible for scouting, practice participation, academic monitoring and helping with a national recruiting effort.

Hillard, has a wealth of coaching experience having also spent time as an assistant coach at Northeastern, Boston University, Delaware, St. Michael's and UMass-Boston.

Hillard is a 1988 graduate of the University of Maine-Farmington where he earned a bachelor's degree in business.

When he began at the University of New Hampshire,
Hilliard had gained valuable experience at several high schools and colleges. He served as head boy's basketball coach at William Barton Rogers Middle School in Hyde Park, Mass. From 1996-98, Hilliard was the head women's basketball coach at the University of Massachusetts in Boston. He gained valuable men's basketball coaching experience at three AMERICA EAST conference schools. He started at Boston University from 1990-91. After a year at Saint Michael's College, he worked at the University of Delaware in 1992-93. He returned to Boston University in 1993-94 and then went cross-town to Northeastern University from 1994-96. He began his college coaching career as an assistant men's basketball coach at the University of Massachusetts in Boston in 1989-90.

Hilliard is a 1988 graduate of the University of Maine in Farmington and earned his bachelor of arts degree in Business. He has also been a teacher at various institutions since 1989, most recently at William Barton Rogers, where he taught science, health and physical education.

In March 2002, Hilliard, along with Sean Doherty, received votes for the best low/mid major assistant coach in the Insiders poll.

I'm really not sure how it works with coaching careers; is it common for a guy to bounce around as much as Hilliard has?
