In reply to: Saderman 's message, "ECAC?" on 21:10:42 07/06/04 Tue

" The arena question: Quinnipiac and Niagara both told the ECAC about new arenas, and I know QU promised to play all their ECAC games on the road until the new arena was completed. Not sure if Niagara promised the same but they also talked up a new arena to the ECAC brass. Playing ECAC games at the Centrum seems to be the direction HC would go if it gained entry to the conference..."

Niagara isn't building a new arena....they ARE refurbishing their existing main arena ( in a 2-rink complex built only about 10 years ago ). They also have access to Buffalo's 19,000-seat HSBC Arena to trump HC's potential use of the 12,000-seat ( for hockey ) Centrum.

The above gleened from articles/NU press releases relative to the ECAC subject in the Buffalo papers.

the centrum seats 16,332 for ice hockey.
Just an FYI

I'm not "centrum", although I guess that there was something in the way that I put my 2 cents' worth in that gave you the impression that it was me replying to the post.

I actually think that in this case that smaller is better, so I'd give the edge to the Centrum.

Drop the "1" off of the Buffalo arena capacity and you still have a hell of a crowd for ECAC hockey.

The Centrum's big enough is what I'm trying to say; in fact, 8,000 would look a lot better there than in Buffalo.

I didn't know that 'Centrum' was you tim. Why didn't you use your normal moniker ?

Why the joke about the Centrum's capacity ????

8,000 would definately look better in the Centrum than in the HSBC Arena. Has the ECAC drawn that many fans to Albany's 15,000-seat Pepsi Arena for it's championships ?

As far as HC using the Centrum for some/the majority/all of it's potential ECAC Home games....seems to me it would take some major juggling of dates/times by HC to not conflict with the Ice Cats home game/practice schedules. Could be done but adding a 3rd team ( Ice Cats ) into the mix of 2 teams ( HC's men and women ) sharing ice for practice/games at 2 venues ( Hart & Centrum ) would be a challenge.
