Subject: from USCHO.com - QU to ECAC hits "snag"?

Quinnipiac, ECAC Sit Tight
USCHO sources have confirmed that Quinnipiac has been recommended by ECAC athletic directors for acceptance into the league. But has the move hit a snag? The move still requires approval of the league's Policy Committee, but what had appeared imminent last week still has not occured. Meanwhile, Holy Cross was strongly considered, but ultimately passed over because of an insufficient commitment to its women's program, which is currently at the Division III level. Holy Cross was willing to upgrade its women's program to Division I, but not devote the same resources as its men's program, sources indicate. The ECAC has been contemplating expansion since Vermont announced its intention to leave the league for Hockey East as of 2005-06.

This conference-affiliation thing is taking on all the characteristics of a hot-summer wedding with a reluctant bride and groom....

It's apparent that some of the HC faithful are grasping at straws. Send your "honor" comments to your administration who apparently wouldn't "honor" the commitment to women's athletics in the same way they would the men's.

whatever. taking shots is worthless. Quit blaming Colgate. Blame your own institution for being subpar athletically and not wanting to make any investment in athletics other than basketball.

I'm told from the most reliable sources on Mt. St. James that although it is not over yet, the mood is "not optimistic" but that "there is a view within the ECAC that there is a real likelihood of further expansion within a year or two."

From what I understand, this is the view of both the athletic department and president's office. The feeling is that Holy Cross "would not promise the impossible" and it will take a few more years and further investment to get the ladies to D1. More specifically, "It cannot be done overnight, and we will not pretend it can. Quinnipiac is already Div. 1 so they have an advantage there."

Based on these comments, I repeat my previous posts that I don't think we can try to put any blame on Colgate or our usual supporters in the Ivy League.

HC has already decided that the ladies program is going to D1 level but has concluded it cannot be done as quickly as the ECAC would like or expects. So, we are out of the running for now.

I agree. The outcome may be a convenient disappointment for HC's shadow AD's.

[> [> The Impossible????? -- Zipp, 07:04:19 07/23/04 Fri

You're kidding, right??? The women's program's been around for five years, I believe. I a year or two more it can't be brought to Div I????? Give me a break. That's a load of bull.

[> Anyone Guess QU Women's First Year? -- Zipp, 07:29:39 07/23/04 Fri

Sader 1970-

Nothing personal, but your source is giving you a load of crap. You know how long Quinnipiac's women's hockey program's been around??? Their FIRST varsity year was 2000!!!

QU seems to have done the "impossible" and create a women's Div. I program "OVERNIGHT" (to use your sources time reference). Once again we're inept!!

This is EXACTLY the lies and lack of commitment that continues to gush from this administration. I'm really begining to think this administration is either clueless or flat out dishonest (assuming your "source" is part of the administration").

that's total spin from Worcester -- come on -- we have (or had) a chance now -- a year or two from now schools like Army or even Navy may also decide to pursue the ECAC -- pathetic in my view
