Subject: HC Directed Football Contributions

One of my co-workers/classmates who was on the football team showed me a letter he received from Gordie Lockbaum sent presumably to former football players that laid the groundwork for a future pitch from Coach Gilmore for contributions specifically directed for the football program. The theme of the letter was to the effect that more $ would result in improved results on the field.

I've been a little confused because I had heard months ago that the program for "directed" contributions for football was imminent. When Coach Gilmore came to our reception in RI, it was my understanding that he was going to make a pitch there. Nothing was said. I spoke with Phil Gibson and we talked about this before our reception started. I never asked him about the timing but thought it was a done deal. Guess it is still not ready yet but based on Lockbaum's letter, if not on the front burner, it's moving closer to the front of the stove.

Anyone have more details on the timing? NTK?

I've communicated with Phil on the issue of athletic contributions but have never been made aware by anyone in the Athletic Dept.or Development of this fund raising program. At the NJ reception there was no mention of fund raising programs by anyone. Phil was unable to attend that evening. He did attend a reception in NYC the night following ours and he was at the RI reception the week prior. Sorry I cannot be of more assistance.

Best way to do something now, I think, is buy a lot of tickets. I get far more season tickets that I need, as a way of contributing.

Untrue. While season tickets are a great way to support athletics in general, it is my understanding that this money will go directly to FB program.

OK, I got the official word that solicitation letters will be going out within the next two weeks and that the fund has been approved.

Many on this board have suggested that we needed a "booster club" or other ways to make direct contributions to specific sports. Now is the time to support the new football coach and team.

I'm told that: "This account will be a great help in many areas where we need to upgrade things within the program. The costs are rising and this fund raising should help us bridge the gap until we get things going again."

Are there plans for similar funds for other sports? Will these be tax-deductible contributions or will Lift High Lacrosse be the only vehicle offering that benefit?
