Subject: HC HOCKEY

Is the ECAC decision at all impacted by the girls' hockey program? Do we have to commit to go to D1 (in girls)from our current D3. Will the ECAC allow a D1 men's program and a D3 gilrs program? Just asking.

we are prepared to go div i for the women's program in order get into the ecac - we have the coach and the facility, we will just have to beef up recruiting, and probably hire a full-time assistant for the women.
the bigger problem is not improving the facility for the men's side of the deal - i don't like playing off-campus as these games don't attract more than 3000 fans on a good night - and most of the campus sites in the league are no more than 3000 capacity. we need to improve hart and avoid bussing players/fans from campus.
in the short term, it's ok to use the centrum, but without a plan to expand hart, we will lose recruits with the stiff competition out there for this calibre of player.

I believe that the ECAC expects that the women's program must be D1, just like the men. Certainly, this is a legitimate expectation. But what would not be legitimate would be for the ECAC to penalize HC for not having a D1 women's team YET, given that at least RPI has not fielded a D1 women's team yet themselves.

What would be worse, however, is if HC did not provide the utmost assurance that the HC women's program would be upgraded immediately and this was the reason that HC's bid failed. All HC athletes (men and women) and alumni should be outraged! OUTRAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
