If the story is true, where were all of our so called
"Ivy League friends"? This is a sad day for HC athletics,this is like the day we did not join the Big East, we are not the high and almighty that some people think.

enough was simply not done to make us a lock. I mean, if we could not convince the ADs and presidents that we would put the resources behind the women's team, then someone (or many people) completely dropped the ball. Either that, or a miscalculation was made and little was said about the women's program.

Q never should have beated us out, outright. Someone from the admin owes HC alum sports supporters an explanation...this is embarrassing at this point. Tentative = you guys screwed up.

ECAC recommends Bobcats for 12th spot

The ECAC hockey committee has recommended Quinnipiac University as its 12th member institution to replace Vermont, sources told the New Haven Register Tuesday.

The recommendation must first be approved by the ECAC�s policy committee, which is expected to meet in August.

A 13th school, Holy Cross of Worcester, Mass., has been tentatively recommended as well, based upon a commitment to upgrade its women�s program, which currently plays in a Division III league.

Pending final approval, Quinnipiac would join ECAC hockey for the 2005-06 season, setting up an inaugural men�s hockey matchup between Yale and Quinnipiac.

Three of the five applicants, Sacred Heart , Niagara and Mercyhurst, have been informed that their applications have been denied.

According to sources, all five schools were notified of their status over the weekend, though Quinnipiac Athletic Director Jack McDonald insisted Tuesday he has not been informed of any recommendation.

"From what I read on the Internet, there are three who have said they are not candidates anymore, and we�re really still waiting," McDonald said. "There�s a lot of talk and rumor, but we�re waiting to hear the word. It�s quite clear there are still two (schools) standing, but I�d like to see it in writing before I can (comment). We�re in triple overtime here."

For Quinnipiac, this would arguably rank as the biggest sports story since the school opted to go Division I in 1999-2000 Consequently, McDonald admitted that the courtship with the ECAC has been extremely nerve-racking.

The ECAC conducted extensive on-site visits to all five applicants over the past month, and the process has been very deliberate.

"As things started unfolding on Friday, when I heard that schools were being notified that they weren�t candidates, the anxiety was sky-high," McDonald said. "We�ll just have to see how it all develops."

Because the process is not completed until the policy committee signs off on the recommendation � or, in the unlikely event that it radically amends it � ECAC Hockey Committee Chairman Wayne Dean said, "I feel it�s inappropriate to comment. The recommendation must be acted upon by the policy committee." Dean is an associate athletic director at Yale.

Ever since Vermont first informed the ECAC that it was leaving for Hockey East, the ECAC has been talking about expanding to 13 teams in order to have a 24-game league schedule � up from 22 in the past. But, according to sources, it�s uncertain if Holy Cross will be extended an invitation as soon as next month. If Holy Cross exhibits a commitment to women�s hockey, it is almost a foregone conclusion that it will be added to the league.

Quinnipiac, a member of Atlantic Hockey, and the MAAC before that, prospectively joins a tradition-rich college hockey league including Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Colgate, Cornell, Brown, Dartmouth, Rensselaer, Union, Clarkson and St. Lawrence.

Quinnipiac has been trying to schedule Yale for several seasons, but because the Bulldogs have a limited non-league schedule and have always opted to play national programs, Quinnipiac has been unable to secure a game with Yale.

The women�s programs of Yale and Quinnipiac have played annually for the past four years.

One of the enticements that worked in Quinnipiac�s favor was the prospect of a new on-campus hockey arena, which is tentatively scheduled to open in January 2007. The Bobcats presently play at the Northford Ice Pavilion.

As was reported on this board by goHChockey, the recommendation by the ECAC Hockey Committee, which thankfully is only a recommendation to the Policy Committee, Quinnipiac should be extended an invite. Thankfully, the post was only half right and HC actually still has a chance if they upgrade the women's team, whatever that means. Thank God we still have a chance. Are there any Presidential cocktail parties scheduled between now and August, so McFarland can push the Ivies some more?

In any event, this is a mess that is arguably worse than the Big East business, because there simply is no reason why we shouldn't be playing in the ECAC. Tha fact that Quinnipiac gets a full recommendation (promise of multi-million dollar rink notwithstanding), while HC gets only a "tentative" based on HC's promise to upgrade the women (easily less of a task), is bewildering. It's just plain insulting. Hopefully, the Hockey Committee isn't the final arbiter.

Would someone with some pull please do something!!!!
