Subject: Great News for HC Hockey

The New Haven Register reports that Quinnipiac and HC (conditionally) will be extended invitations to the ECAC. Here is an excerpt:

"A 13th school [the Q would be 12], Holy Cross of Worcester, Mass., has been tentatively recommended as well, based upon a commitment to upgrade its women’s program, which currently plays in a Division III league . . .

Ever since Vermont first informed the ECAC that it was leaving for Hockey East, the ECAC has been talking about expanding to 13 teams in order to have a 24-game league schedule — up from 22 in the past. But, according to sources, it’s uncertain if Holy Cross will be extended an invitation as soon as next month. If Holy Cross exhibits a commitment to women’s hockey, it is almost a foregone conclusion that it will be added to the league."

Everything I have read says that HC is willing to upgrade the women's program. They have already started advertising for a new assistant women's hockey coach. I think the administration has pulled this one off and deserve accolades. It looks like big time hockey is in our future!

we enter the league at the same time as the Q and on the same terms. otherwise, we rested on our laurels of an at one time great athletic tradition and the false perception that academic snobbery would carry the day.

it is about time the Ivies hit us with the brick across the face...someone needed to be woken up on the hill.

same terms at the same time or this is a failure. sure we might eventually make it in, but when and why second place to the Q. Our student athletes, students, and alum deserve more.

Cheers.

I don't get it. Everybody knew that this was a package deal; both Men's and Women's. And the committee certainly knew that our women's team was Div III when we started this process. So you mean to say that the committee didn't ASK HC if we would upgrade our women's program? Tenative? Based on what? Isn't it implicit in our application to the ECAC that we'll upgrade? Something's not right here.

I agree that something is not right. Quinnipiac gets in with the promise of a $65 MILLION dollar rink and we tentatively get in with the promise to upgrade the women's program. I would bet that we could upgrade the women's program quicker and cheaper than Q could build their new rink. It does not make sense.

If this is the decision, the logic of is, to say the least, convoluted.

Hey, c'mon fellas, this is the Ivy League we're dealing with here....

The best is yet to come via the formal press releases. HC's from McFarland and Regan, has the potential to be a CLASSIC !

Relax....sit back....watch, read and listen....closely !

There may not be a press release- maybe a few questions from reporters; but I would think that unless the bid is out the window, HC has to play it close to the vest.

Maybe we can still apply to HOCKEY EAST, then we can play w.th the big boys. We don't need the Ivy League, they don't want a Jesuit school included in their little domain.
