Subject: Question for cf
In reply to: NTKHC64 's message, "NJ Club Reception June 15 RSVP Now Please" on 10:56:51 06/05/04 Sat

So, why do YOU continue to support HC athletics?

I don't disagree with anything you've writtem. My "excuse" for supporting HC is the long family history of alums that have been on the hill when there were good years and bad years athletically. And the fact that I spent 4 wonderful years getting an education that I think has helped formed me into the person I am today, including my value system.

My guess, cf, is that even though you didn't go there, you've got some good friends and/or relatives who did and you are "purple by association."

But, if that's NOT the case, why would you support and attend games that play in a "mediocre" conference and, not even having good results at that level?

I sometimes ask myself that ??.

My dad is an old timer and filled my head with Johnnie Turco, Mel Masuco and Bill Ozmanski. He hooked me on FB when I was 8 yrs old and took me to my 1st FB game at HC. I guess too me as a kid, HC FB was an awesome experience. I stayed following FB thru the late 80's but after 91' I havn't followed the FB team.

BB is the same story, My dad filled my head with the teams of 47-52. How he meet the team at Union Station after the 47' championship. His trips to the Boston Garden to see HC play. Even though he never went to HC either, It was one of the best programs in NE during his time. So I got hooked.

Why am I still hooked? I still enjoy going to BB games and I now take my son. I look at HC as the only D1 team in central MA. I grew up not liking BC (you can't like both)and that remains to this day. Umass, to me was a flash in the pan. I hope to see HC return to the respectability and popularity in BB that it once had. I know we will never see an NCAA champ again, but why not a team that can compete night in and night out with some of the top 50 programs in the country?
I have always felt the HC has the best facilities at their grasp and they have a metropolis of almost 300K that would and could fill a Centrum to see top notch competition. It makes me feel bad when Umass can come into the centrum and draw 13k and HC play on or near that date and draw 800!

I guess the comment we Worcester non-alums have pasted on our walls is "We are not in the entertainment business" Worcester still views that 25 year old comment as ringing true. That is still a hard pill to swallow.
