Subject: Bucknell Women's Bball Schollie Limit Question

Not sure on this one but how is it that with Bucknell graduating 4 seniors from a 15 person squad they can then recruit 6 more athletes (3 schollie, 3 other) bringing there new total above the NCAA limit of 13 scholarships? Am I wrong on the number here or are there other allowances that I am unfamiliar with?

I remember a few years ago that HC's men had to self-sanction for going over the 13 limit. Is it different for women's bball? Does Title IX and or NCAA allow more schollies (merit and fin aid) for women?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

Thanks,

but Bucknell still appears to be over the limit with 17 players, unless some of the non-schollie players are getting zero financial aid and/or they are counted differently.

Cheers.

i believe it's the total aid - i.e., they can give 12 full schollies and say 6 partials averaging 50 pct on need basis and that would total 15, which indeed is the limit for women's bball (13 for men but some schools use the addl grants for title ix compliance)

No, basketball is a head count sport, not equivalency sport. If you give a basketball player any athletically related aid, that counts as one of the allowable 15, even if it is a partial. On a 18 woman roster, therefore, only 15 can be receiving athletically related aid.
