Subject: Canadian Players--implications
In reply to: matunuck 's message, "just posted on USCHO.com -- I'd say HC is a lock" on 12:42:51 06/30/04 Wed

I know that we have quite a number of Canadian players on our team. Irrespective of the scholarship situation, is that taken as a positive indicator of HC's increased emphasis on/commitment to hockey? Do our competitors for the ECAC spot also have a significant Canadian presence??

on the issue of ECAC admission, as well as Holy Cross's need to be agressive in seeking admission. This ECAC thing really looks like a close shave within your administration and a little yelling from graduates (especially generous ones) would have been helpful in motivating the leadership to present the best possible case for admission.

I know that Colgate would be very happy to see you in the league and I hope it comes out that way.

I would not be shocked to see both HC and Quinnipiac receive invitations. QU obviously boosted its position by agreeing to play all ECAC games on the road while their building is constructed.

is a problem. ECAC teams all play on campus in relatively cozy, packed rinks. Empty seats at the Centrum are not a plus. ECAC is loaded with Canadian players (with US prep schoolers making-up most of the rest).

sorry, I've been to a ton of Brown games and they are hardly ever packed -- not even close - and the ave. attendance number for the ECAC as a whole is no where near total capacity -- Colgate draws well but others do not

I saw Dartmouth visit Princeton last November, and there were about 1100 there, and it was pretty full. If I remember right, it was right after Thanksgiving, or thereabouts during the schedule...i.e. early in the campaign. You'd be hard pressed to get 1100 for a regular season game at the Hart at the moment. In three years, with constant program improvement, 1100 would be a reasonable goal.

Kesiwick's comments are consistent what I've heard from HC administration sources that the size (or lack thereof) of the Hart is overstated as an issue and, again, the Centrum is there for us when we really think the ECAC opponents, or others are going to pack the house. Though no number was given to me, my strong impression was that maybe we'd "need" to play 3 or 4 games a year at the Centrum.

As for nationality of players, though I don't think HC draws too many prep schoolers, we have a sizeable contingent of Canadians. So when they play "Oh, Canada", we'll have as many teary eyes as any other ECAC team.
