"It's me and the moon," She says

For a kid who had left home the fall following her high school graduation - with an exchange program with the university that she had chosen - and hadn't been back at all since, she thought she was doing pretty well as far as being pleasant and social went. In fact, tonight was the first night that she had escaped the family and was taking such much-deserved - so she figured - alonetime. The beach here wasn't hardly what she remembered - but then again, she supposed she had grown accustomed to the spreads of Oz. At the thought of her second home, a gentle frown creased her features - as of November, she had completed the two-year program and now was back here, for good she feared, though she was still desperately looking for an opportunity to head back there. Back in Australia, it may have been summer - bikinis and tees and shorts and skirts - but it was very definitely winter here, and so though she sat out straddling her longboard in the gentle waves, she wore a wetsuit because she was no fool, no matter how much she hated having to wear one. It was late - night was out in full force and the moon was struggling to shine through the spotty clouds - and she was alone, so she was just sitting there reasonably close to short, yet still breaking the number one rule of all surfers. What else was she supposed to do though? Her parents were busy playing host and hostess, and she hadn't a clue or much of a care where her sister was, and she didn't really know anyone else around here. High school felt like much more than two and a half years ago. Pushing aways all melancholic thoughts for the time being, she paddled herself slowly around at an uninspired pace - just relaxing into the soothing sway of the tame water and enjoying the chilly but crisp and clear night. All she was was a silhouette out on the horizon, and right now - she liked it like that...
