Well, we left Renfrew at 1:00, and got to the city at about 2:10... after getting lost in "the ghetto" of Ottawa ("Are we REALLY in the ghetto?"- Tia). Dad dropped us off and we spent the next 45 minutes trying to find the goddamn lineup... we got twisted in the Rideau Centre, the Eaton Centre, and the Weston Hotel trying to follow the directions of hotel/mall employees. Anyways, we finally found the line... and guess where it was... 10 feet from where we were dropped off. Serious. Argh.

So there we were in line, about 40 people from the front, in minus 25 degree weather... with no coats. Who the hell wears a COAT to a concert?! At least we had our toques. At any rate, the doors weren't due to be opened for another 4 hours.

About an hour and a half into it (and one coffee-run later), we spot the guy from the New RO (the Ottawa TV station). We decide to attract his attention by yelling, "RENFREW! WE'RE FROM RENFREW!". And over he came.
"You HAVE to put us on TV! Why? ...Cuz we're from RENFREW! And it's cold and we're not wearing coats! ... And Meike's from GERMANY! Her first concert EVER!"
We were on the 6 o'clock news, apparently.

About half an hour after that, around the corner comes Tom Shock, the nighttime DJ at Xfm, and he has a video camera and a mic.
"TOM! COME TALK TO US!"
And over HE comes.
Anyways, we tell him Meike's German, and he's like, "Really? I'm German-Swedish... I understand lots of German! Talk to me!" So Mike says something in German, and he looks into the camera and goes, "Her name is Meike." Mike talks some more. "She's from Germany. And she loves Nickelback." He talks to us for a while longer- remarks on Matt's bush coat (definition: a baggy plaid coat worn in the bush- typical Renfrew attire.). The he asks if we're gonna throw our bras. We just laugh. *hmmm...*

After Tom leaves, we hatch a plan. Everyone throw some cash into the pot and we'll run into La Sensa and buy a big ol' flashy bra, and put our names on it, and throw it on the stage. So off run Ashley and Nikki, with a grand total of $17.46 in their pockets. About half an hour later they come back with the prize in tow... a size 38 DD bright red faux-snakeskin bra, with "To Nickelback, Love Renfrew" on one cup, and "Nikki, Ashley, Jenna, Tina, Tia, Meike, Nicole & Matt on the other one. (Yes, this WAS a big bra.) We all giggle.

The guy in front of us, Andy, a vegetarian pink-dreadlocked guy who stood 6 foot 8 (really), ordered a pizza on his cell phone from the line. So we ask him to ask the pizza guy to bring us some Timmy's coffee and donuts (Tim Horrrrrtons... best coffee ever...). So half an hour later, here comes pizza-man... and I guess he thought we were INSIDE, cuz he knocked on the door and the guard LET HIM IN. We're like, "Holy Fuck... Nickelback's gonna eat our food! Screw Nickelback! Cofffffeeee!" So Pink-Dreadlock-Guy calls him back on his cell and tells him we're outside. It was quite funny. So the 12 of us (Pink-Dreadlock-Guy has friends too, y'know) shared all our food and drink and bonded. How sweet.

At one point, don't ask me when, this limo comes around the corner, and Tia, being a little crazy, CHASES after it. She says Nickelback was in it. We don't know whether to believe he or not, cuz we saw their tour bus when we were looking for the line- *snapsnap* <--- Jenna takes a picture. Anyways, after the food was all gone, a limo pulls up to the front of the building, and after Tia's proclamation of a "Nickelback Limo Siting", the whole line started to freak out a little bit. Wasn't Nickelback, or even Default. It was four people that no one knew. The line wasn't very impressed.
"Fucking anti-climax!"
"You're PATHETIC... Who takes a LIMOSINE to a concert??"
"Let's roll the limo!"

I think that's all the line-stories... yeah. That's all there is to tell about that... except that by the time the doors opened, I couldn't feel my hands, feet or nose, and my knees had locked... and I'm pretty sure everyone else would say the same thing.

So yeah, we got in, and RAN down the stairs... only to find that downstairs was COATCHECK... two floors UPSTAIRS was the stage. So with our frozen feets, locked knees and icy lungs, we allll ran up three flights of stairs and across the floor to the barrier. Front row centre, as usual.

We made friends with Will-the-security-guard and talked to Tom again (when we showed him the bra, he laughed and called us losers and said he couldn't have done it better himself.), and met the Arts photographer from the Ottawa Citizen, one of the two main Ottawa papers. Very nice woman... and she took Ashley and Nikki's picture with the bra for the review in Tuesday's paper. It was in there, all right... and I was right beside Ashley... lookin' a bit crazy, I may add... I was yelling at the guitar tech when the picture was taken- he was wearing this STYLIN' brown cowboy hat...

Default came on... as much as I'm NOT fond of them, I have to admit that they're a good band live. Not magnificent or anything, but better than the album. As I expected, Sick & Tired ruled live (that's my favourite song on their album), and Deny and Wasting My Time (the singles) were well-recieved. At the end of Deny, their last song, Chad from Nickelback came on and sang the last bit with Dallas (the singin' dude from Default). He was wearing a shirt with a pot leaf on it. Very entertaining. What else can I say about their set... oh. The bassist or guitarist... who was it... the bassist, I think... anyways, he has these braided pigtails goin' on, and he was whipping his head around for awhile and it was quite amusing... I was watching him thinking, "Woah man... excercist... WILD!"... and and at one point, Dallas jumped off the stage and walked in front of the barrier... and afterwards, Ashley turns to me and yells, "DID YOU TOUCH THE HOTTIE!?" "YES ASH, I TOUCHED THE HOTTIE!" "MEEE TOOO!!"

The standard half-hour wait. Talked to Will-the-security-guard again. Met Sophie, the girl next to me. She works at MusicWorld in the Rideau Centre, and she REALLY wanted to hear Worthy To Say, and when she grows up, she's gonna call her first daughter Jenna. Very nice to know, Sophie my dear. Nice girl, she was. *Oh, and WHAT was with the Incubus?! That was ALL they played before Nickelback came on! And it was ALL Chili Peppers before Default!*

Nickelback's set. To be honest, I don't remember a lot of it... but they really are much better live than on the album. I came away a bigger fan than I was originally. They played most of the singles, and lots of the stuff off their albums... Where Do I Hide RULED. Best song all night. They left How You Remind Me 'till last- it was weird... Chad and Ryan came out with acoustics and just sat there and played the first verse and chorus, and then they stopped and brought out the electrics and Mike and Nik came back out (a good two minutes later) and they finished it rock-style. Ummm... Too Bad was the crowd favourite, I think. What else can I tell you... Pot leaf on the bass drum. Mike, the bassist, was wearing a cowboy hat and according to Ashley (the biggest country music fan in the building, I think) realised it was "THE SAME HAT THAT ALAN JACKSON WEARS!!!" So we spent all night trying to get him to give us that hat... no hat for us, in the end... but we did get guitar picks (he stole them off Chad's mike stand... :) ) and a big ol' wink and a smile. What else... ohhh... I don't know if I told you guys this before, but I've been saying for MONTHS that Ryan (the guitar player) looks like a Cabbage Patch Doll. So yeah, when he first came out, the first thing that came into my head was 'CABBAGE PATCH!'... and then I realised that he's absolutly beautiful. I feel bad saying that... I'm thinking 'TEENIE' right now... but it's TRUE. Ashley looks over at me and she had the same look on her face as I did... we just looked at each other and I knew exactly what she was thinking... "That is the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen in my life..." <--- lol... and that's how she'd say it, too. :) So yeah, that's the most teenie-riffic thing I've said in a while... but I have a little bit of a Ryan Peake thing going on right now... Forgive me.
It was hard to hear most of what Chad said... the mic was kinda fuzzy sometimes... but here's some of the stuff I remember him saying:
"This is a little song about marijuana." - before Worthy To Say
"This is a little song about magic mushrooms."- before Leader of Men
"Wow... I'd throw you back mine, but I left it in the dressing room. Sorry. Thanks, ladies!"- after we threw our bra. :)
"We have a day off tomorrow... and that means that tonight we'll be visiting some of your fine Ottawa establishments for a few drinks... so if you see me face down somewhere, just pick me up, pat me on the ass and send me on my way. I'll be fine."

So yeah, it was a good night. Better than I'd expected it to be. (Plus, I got my picture in the paper. :) ) I'd go again, definatly. It was worth the four hours in the cold. And y'know what? Next time the How You Remind Me video comes on, I don't think I'll turn it off. (Ok, so I just want to look at Ryan... SO?! I have an slight infatuation right now! It'll pass... maybe.) I don't remember getting home... dad says it wasn't until 3:00, cuz it was snowing and the highways were bad and we had to drop off Mike and Tina and Tia, and my cousin Terry, who came down to keep my dad company... and I had to go to school the next day- first day of the new semester- I couldn't miss that. All the pictures I took came out REALLY good, too... The Very Nice Citizen Lady took a picture of Ash and Nikki and the bra on my camera and it turned out better than the one in the paper... I may have to mail her a copy. I have this really nice picture of RYAN, too... he was right in front of us... I think I may frame it... (OHMAN... I'm so pathetic...)

Talk to yas later!
Forever,
J.

PS- lol... the teacher I had for media last semester, Mr. Porier, analysed the picture in the paper this morning over the announcements. He said that it sumbliminally said to the readers of the paper that all girls from Renfrew were slutty. Quite amusing, yet embarrasing.
PPS- Hey, guess what? Too Bad just came on TV... did I mention that I like goatees? Guess who has a goatee? Ryan. (tee hee hee...)
