Shelly,

I think you made a wise choice to give your boys their clean outs on Saturday morning and wait to give sitter hers on Saturday evening. This relieves some time pressure and I think more importantly gives you time with sitter alone in the bathroom to talk with you more freely during her clean out without the boys present.

I also believe you understand the importance of routine clean outs to maintain the effectiveness of the Metamucil and remove residues that build up in the kid's colons from the Metamucil and poor dietary habits. So good for you and don't be tempted to skip or postpone the clean outs because the Metamucil seems to be working well.

I have a question for you: How much soap do you mix in the water for the cleansing enemas and how much of the soap and water solution do you give to each child? I assume sitter gets more than the boys because her colon is larger due to her age and her long history of holding.

I also have another suggestion for you that modifies the procedure outlined in my previous post: Instead of using a fixed amount of the soapy water in the bag for the cleansing enemas, fill the bag full and hang it just 18 inches above the child's anus. With the nozzle fully inserted open the tubing shut-off slightly to allow a slow flow. Pinch the tubing as needed to interrupt the flow to help manage any cramping. The low bag placement will result in a low gentle pressure that will fill the entire colon and the flow will stop when the colon is full. This will ensure that the soap is distributed uniformly all the way up in the colon for improved results without injury that might otherwise result from overfilling.

Hugs to all and I hope all of you have a great Thanksgiving!

- Joyce
