Chloe,
Yes, by him taking deep breaths he controls the cramps but also allows more solution to go into him. The inflatable nozzle isn’t going to let it come out so he learns to breathe to take more in. Two things you could do, one, give him a small enema to empty his rectum and then give him the almost two quarts. By emptying his rectum he will be able to take more deeper into his colon.
Or, I have heard that goat milk soap doesn’t cause cramps but coats his intestines really well. Since he is having to hold it due to the inflatable nozzle, the goat milk soap will coat him good and go deeper into him without any cramps as he breaths as well. He would probably be expecting to have cramps and be waiting but as he waits, the goat milk soap is coating him and going deeper into him. Ask him to breathe deep and he will take more in. A good deep cleaning enema solution. Will you give an update to know the effectiveness of how his breathing helps him.

I will also add, I have known parents to use just warm water as the enema solution and some parents have used johnson and johnson baby shampoo. Some of course stay with the ole fashioned white ivory bar. I never saw mom make the solution. I just know the jar she brought in with her was warm soapy soapy water that did its job well. I imagine your son produces good results holding for a certain time plus having that inflatable nozzle to seal him until it’s time and that table of course holding him in position and restraining him from fighting it too much.
