I just had a heart felt chat with Italian Gal's mother. She called me because her daughter is alarmed and upset because I was concerned how much poop she had in her. She is convinced now that she is going to get colon cancer because her colon won't empty itself. Mom says her daughter is a little bit OCD. Some in the Psychiatry circles call these kids 'anal' personalities because they fixate on issues about emptying their bowels in some cases. She is picky about what she eats because she reads or hears some where that it will give her cancer. And she has read the medical reports that say colon cancer is hitting younger and younger people every year. I told her to reassure her that she is going to be just fine. Don't worry about things you have little control over. Focus on what you can do. Sitter has to have her enemas every week now so she should come and I promise she only has to have one enema but it has to be a large enema so I can get it all the way across her transverse section. It is hard to get that large of an enema past so much stool if it isn't slippery from the soap I put in soapsuds enemas. But we can try just one large warm water enema it she really dislikes getting the soapsuds enema first. Mom says she definitely wants regular enemas now because of this new fear. I told mom to come and I will teach her how to give the enemas. She said she thinks her daughter would be more comfortable with me because she hates that her mom has to give her her suppositories because she isn't able to get them deep enough in herself to get them to empty her. So I told her Thursday after school is when we need to do the enemas. Oh, and sitter has learned a new strategy. I always keep her supplied in tampons and liner pads. She doesn't use the tampons but the pads disappear by the handfulls. All month long. And yet at times underwear still comes up missing.

Andrea, I remember your posts from last year. It is so good to hear from you. I remember you talking about standing in line at the Drug store with her in tow purchasing pull ups and a laxative of some kind, don't remember, was it miralax or Docusate and a stimulant? You can go to any Drug store and buy prepackaged one use enemas in a bottle but I challenge anybody to find a simple bulb enema syringe at any Drug store in this country. You pay dollars for every Fleet you give your child and what does it do? It empties the rectum. What would a one time purchase of a bulb syringe for a couple of dollars that could be used hundreds of times with no more money spent to put a little warm water in their butt do? Same thing. All of our children's Drs. in this country are bribed and sweet talked into never mentioning the possibility of solving a packed rectum or colon with a simple bulb or bag enema. No money to be made there. If I had nickel for every Fleet enema, bisacodyl, or mineral oil, or saline, sold, I would be able to buy a fancy mansion for my family and never have to work. I might have to buy it by making payments but a nickel an enema would be more than enough to buy it. In this country alone thousands are sold every day and then throw in the whole world that Fleet is shipped to. I digress. I get on my high horse and I can't get off. I'm so glad your little girl is okay with her enemas. She remembers those months and months of pooping herself and the tummy aches and the pull ups and the missed school. She loves her life now and even looks forward to her enema because it freed her from herself. Parents, our children who withhold their stools are having a fight with themselves. Two warring factions going at it inside their brain and their bodies are paying the price for it. Say NO no laxatives, no pull ups. We will be humane. We will do enemas!
