If ME or MN are keeping track of fan sentiment, then they have to know that whenever the Buffy/Spike relationship is discussed, Spike's essential nature (evil, not evil?) always comes up, as well as how difficult it would be for Buffy and/or the Scoobies to overcome their feelings about his past horrible deeds. So the idea that fans have forgotten Spike of 2 seasons ago was either uninformed or not well thought out. Plus, Buffy fans generally forget very little from past seasons! I'm constantly amazed at the level of detail referenced from past shows during Buffy-related discussions. This was a pretty surprising comment, I thought.
