the rumor I have heard is that she returns as a character, but not alive. My own feeling is that she takes the role seen in Restless, a spirit guide for Buffy and Willow as they seek (and achieve?) contentment.

In all the years the Scoobies have been fighting evil, noone we truly care about has died, so I agree, as much as I love Tara, it is about time. And I don't think the above scenario diminishes the cost of her death (especially for Willow). Unfortunately I am having the same fears about Joss and ME. As I said above, I think they run the risk of going too far, losing 3 of 6 characters (Giles/Tara/Willow) that we love (if Anya goes dark as well that would be 4 of 6) in one season is alot to ask the viewer to accept. The only good regulars left would be Xander (Dawn too I guess) whom alot fo viewers don't have alot of affinity for and Buffy. How alone does she have to be?
