I'm not sure that alienation is the right word. I think that the upheaval is necessary. We may not like it, even hate it, but I'm sure that the writers feel that it is a necessary thing in order to progress, story-wise & character-wise. Things can't stay the same as they are now or as it was in the past. Can we say stagnant? You have to have the bad & the ugly with the good & the fluffy.
