Moore confirmed there had been an incident involving his son, George, and Soumillon at the Sticky Fingers bar in Mody Road, with George Moore emerging with a cut lip.

"It was a minor scuffle and at this stage I'm leaving it in the hands of the Jockey Club," John Moore said.

Jockey Club security chief Steven Chandler interviewed both parties yesterday and told the Post there had been "some discussion about horse racing matters and a brief pushing match between two young men who might have had a bit much to drink".

"But it is out of the Jockey Club's area of authority. George Moore is not a licensed person and neither was Christophe Soumillon at that time," he said. Technically, Soumillon was only licensed on a visiting jockey's permit until midnight on Sunday to ride at the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International meeting at Sha Tin.

He will start a club jockey stint on January 1, but between midnight on Sunday and then he is not a licensed person under the aegis of the club.

Soumillon won the Hong Kong Mile on Good Ba Ba, then later rode Bullish Luck in the Hong Kong Cup, the horse who held the Moore-trained Viva Pataca in a pocket at the top of the straight. Stewards found no fault with Soumillon's riding at that point, but he was suspended for careless riding at the end of the race, adding to an earlier ban he picked up in the Hong Kong Vase.

Soumillon could not be contacted last night.
