I really had no opinion at all on the quote from Acts.

The early church in Jerusalem was not the only Utopian society on the planet, and like most of them it was not very successful. If you read further in Acts and in Paul's letters you'll notice that he was constantly raising money to help the Jerusalem church. I'd imagine that they were suffering from the same cash-flow problems that all Utopian societies suffer from.

Here in Indiana we have one of the world's most famous Utopian societies - it's in loads of history books and I'm sure its on the net in hundreds of places - New Harmony. It is so famous because it lasted 11 years (two entirely different groups inhabited the same location and both failed miserably)

Yes, I am a history and a Spanish teacher. No, I've never read the Communist Manifesto in its entirety but I feel fully capable of discussing Communism or Marxism.(Yes, I do realize that Lenin and Stalin merely interpreted Marx's works and adapted them to their needs and purposes and that both Lenin and Stalin had different interpretations. I also realize that Marx dealt only in theory and in politics theory and reality rarely, if ever, meet.) Dictatorship of the Proletariat, dialectical materialism, yadda yadda. Doesn't work. Won't work. It ignores the way we are hard-wired. If you are religious you might say it ignores man's sinful nature. If you are into evolution than you might way it goes against millions of years of evolution that has made us want to acquire more and more and more.

STU: "As much as I enjoy arguing with you, I don't like the way you choose one little statement to respond to and ignore the rest of my post, thereby ignoring the context of the statement."

I think everyone that posts here is guilty of that. In my case, it is partly due to a lack of time - school has been very busy and it only seems to get worse until graduation. You may have noticed my posts have been less frequent.
