Perhaps I am missing the point, but I see nothing wrong with dreaming for [...] nothing to fight for.

Certainly there is nothing wrong with that dream, but I personally would hate that sort of world. I like having something to fight for. Things that are gained cheaply tend to be held in contempt. Something freely given is often just as freely discarded. I want to fight in order for my ambitions to happen - I would not want them handed to me on a silver platter. Perhaps that is the Capitalist in me, but I like to earn what I have - not have it handed out to me according to my need - and I want to fight to keep it, be it a possession, my honour, my self-esteem, whatever. I am not particularly inclined to share the fruits of my labours with those who are too lazy to go out and get their own fruits - and I would really hate it if government or popular culture forced me to share. Of course, if everything I had was just given to me, including my identity, my job, then who cares if everyone else shares it?

I also think so long as we give ourselves individual names and treat ourselves as individuals, with individual rights to our own bodies (including the right to say "no"), then there will be a division in humanity and an inclination to divide everything else. Language itself is divisive, by labeling things - this is a tree, that is a rock.
