I can see what you are saying about it not really being a sacrifice. The point is that He (God) is greater than all of the sin of all of mankind. He transcended all of the sin and even came back to life.

The sacrifice I was referring to was really Old Testament stuff - giving up property as punishment.

I would agree with the thought that asking for forgiveness does sacrifice our own sense of importance and that is extremely important. Christ changed the old paradigm in that fashion.

Your joking comment at the end is actually a serious view held by many, including myself early in my faith. That is why so many churches refuse to bury suicides in their graveyards (unforgiven sin). This is pointless shame heaped unto a distraught family. Christians live in a forgiven state, not with a scorecard that runs since the last confession or church service.
