Gollum was not a hobbit, merely a creature similar to a hobbit. His age is indeterminate due to the ring keeping him alive. His people had long since died off.

I disagree. Gollum's age CAN be determined fairly closely. He found the ring around 2463 TA (Third Age), 2,461 years after Isildur lost it in the Anduin River. It was Gollum's 33rd birthday or so when he found it, so he was born 2430 TA. Bilbo took the Ring from Gollum in 2941, so he had the ring for nearly 478 years. Gollum died on Mount Doom in 3019 TA. Gollum lived for about 589 years.
