Wouldn't that depend on your belief background? Many churches I've attended hold the idea of the Trinity to be eternal and existing in the Old Testiment times as well. Granted man's awareness did come much later in Jesus' time. I wouldn't call the arguement false, just a different point of view. I'm no theologian by any means.
Also, consider the references in the Lord's Prayer to the shepard and how that is used to describe Jesus later more so than God from the Christian point of view. I seem to recall many references to coming Messaih (sp) which came across to me as differentiated some from God. Maybe just my background, albeit weak.
