Subject: ANHOW Review of Books: "A Portrait of Jesus" by Joseph F. Girzone

Genre: Non-fiction
Published: 1998 by Image Books (Doubleday)

Joseph F. Girzone is a retired (due to health reasons) parish priest who has written several books. I've reviewed one previously and here is a link.

This book is a biography of Jesus with commentary. It is a short book (179 pages) that I breezed through in about a day and a half but it is the best description that fits my understanding of Jesus. As I have previously stated on this forum, I had a real spiritual crisis and awakening about 8 years ago (my late 20s) and I came through it with a new understanding of Christ. This book nearly mirrors my own understanding of Christ. I say nearly because Girzone is a priest and he throws in a bit of "Mary-ology" now and then (a concept I don't even begin to understand, but that's another issue entirely and one that unfairly tends to be the focus and source of trouble between protestants and Catholics).

Anyway, I give this book an "A+" and I heartily recommend it.
