Author: Abba's Son
Subject: Book Review: "The Wounded Spirit" by Frank Peretti

I know these book reviews seem to be monopolized by Mt. Healthy Mountaineer, but, I thought this might be off interest to some of you. If I am not mistaken, it sounds as though some of you are involved in the teaching profession, and this would be an excellent resource for helping/ministering to those students "on the fringe."

Peretti is best known for his Christian fiction focused on spiritual warfare and the supernatural. (I would highly recommend the following as well: This Present Darkness, Piercing the Darkness, The Oath, and The Visitation.) "The Wounded Spirit" is a non-fiction account of the author's struggle from a birth defect and how this affected him throughout most of his life. The first chapter, "Boy's Hell," is a graphic description of what happens when a small, pre-pubescent boy is abused by his classmates in the locker room during PE. Perhaps the best part of the book was Chapter 6, "The Playground Parable." This is one of the best discussions on morality I have read. It has a hint of CS Lewis' influence.

Most of all, the book is for those who have been wounded by peers in school, work or the home. I was one of the poorest kids in the upper middle class Jr. High school that I attended and was made an immediate target by those who thought they were better than me. While I have come a long way since 6th-8th grade, I can still remember the insults, (and one beating) that I dealt with on a consistent basis.

While this book is written from a Christian perspective, I think it would be applicable to all audiences. It's both an easy read, and well-written.

NOTE: It may be retitled "No More Bullies."

By the way, do you guys know about www.campusi.com ? Great place to find cheap books!
