But sometimes a cigar is a big penis, too. ;) It has been my experience (all you have to do is look around to see that long hair is definitely not the norm, and therefore seen as counter-culture) that people with long hair are passed over for people with short hair, because quite simply--- it is preferred. In the business world, a certain appearance is believed to be important (whether it is or isn't doesn't really matter, it is the belief that shapes the world...). Rare is the man who can get away with looking that much different than his neighbor. There is a Japanes saying: "The nail that sticks up is the one that gets hammered down." This is just a tendency of all humans. It's a shame, but though we give lip service to diversity, no one really wants it, and all are at least moderately frightened of it. ;)
